Abu Dhabi Classics: Hélène Grimaud

French pianist Hélène Grimaud will be performing at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Oct. 10 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. As part of the ongoing Abu Dhabi Classics series, Grimaud will feature several works from her most recent album, Water. Student tickets are 30 AED.

NYU Abu Dhabi Institute: Cultural Connections of Mleiha

Eisa Yousif, supervisor of Archaeological Survey and Excavations under the Government of Sharjah’s Department of Culture and Information, will be speaking at NYU Abu Dhabi on Oct. 9. Yousif will be discussing Mleiha — an ancient city located in modern day UAE, a noted archeological site and a hub for commerce in the ancient Arab Peninsula. The event is free for students and will be held in the Conference Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

NYUAD Theater Program: Yellow Brick Road

NYUAD will be presenting a theatrical adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, titled Yellow Brick Road and directed by Tomi Tsunoda, from Oct. 12 to Oct. 15 in the Black Box Theater. Showings will occur at 8 p.m. with an additional showing at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The show sold out immediately — however, students can show up before showtimes to claim extra seats if those become available.

Economics Seminar Series: Santiago Oliveros

Dr. Santiago Oliveros of the University of Essex will be presenting his paper Competing for Loyalty: The Dynamics of Rallying Support, a recent publication written in conjunction with Professor Matias Iaryczower of Princeton University. The paper to be discussed centers on dynamic collective action problems and their applications to endorsements in elections and corporate takeovers. The lecture will be held in the Social Science Building in room 101 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 10.

Political Science Seminar Series: Shami Mahvish

Dr. Mahvish Shami of the London School of Economics and Political Science will be presenting her paper Instrumental Incoherence in Institutional Reform: Decentralization as a Structural Solution to Political Exigency, a recent publication written in conjunction with Professor Jean-Paul Faguet, also of LSE. The paper to be discussed centers on why leaders enact institutional reforms, focusing on decentralization in Bolivia and Pakistan. The lecture is in the Social Science Building in room 101 from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 11.

Migrant and Refugee Panel

NYU Solidarity with Refugees and the European Society will be hosting a panel discussion on the recent migrant and refugee crises in Europe. The panel will include UNHCR and EU representatives along with NYUAD professors and students. The event is in the Conference Center at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 13. RSVP is required.

UAE Club: Sawalef Sunday

The UAE Club is hosting the first Sawalef Sunday of the year as an informal discussion about the UAE. The event is in the Baraha and begins at 5 p.m. on Oct. 9. Emirati sweets will be served.
