Over the past few weeks, The Gazelle has published a series of opinion pieces regarding the use of the term U.S. American. The Gazelle is grateful to the authors for devoting their time to write on the issue, and would like to thank all who commented and added their voice to this debate.
Throughout the history of The Gazelle, our editorial boards have consistently agreed that U.S. America is the clearest way to refer to the United States of America. Our intentions here are to be as unambiguous as possible and to prevent misunderstandings in the articles we publish.
The Gazelle has decided to retain our current policy on the use of the term U.S. American. As before, The Gazelle will use U.S. American to represent individuals from the United States of America.
We recognize that some writers strongly identify with the term American. The Gazelle is dedicated to supporting the voices of emerging writers that choose to publish with us, and recognize that for personal pieces, use of U.S American may obscure the original intent of the author. Our policy of using U.S American will apply, unless an author specifically requests to use the term American in a personal or opinion piece.
