On March 10, Student Government General Assembly focused on three main topics: the sunset clause, the end-of-year event and the information session about Executive Board.
Firstly, the sunset clause, which stated that the current constitution would expire on the date of commencement for the Class of 2017, did not pass with four votes for and 10 votes against.
Secondly, Officer of Student Activities Noor Al-Mahruqi announced that Student Government had begun selling the end-of-year event tickets. The event will take place on April 21 at the Jumeirah Hotel in Etihad Towers.
Finally, the information session about Executive Board, which was meant to inform students about the various roles of the board’s members in preparation for the coming elections, was postponed. Nevertheless, the election timeline was announced. Students will be able to declare their candidacy between April 12 and April 19. On April 19, Student Government will hold a Questions and Answer session in order to shed light on their various roles and responsibilities. On April 25, the Candidate Forum will take place, where candidates will be available to answer students’ questions. The ballot will open at 11:59PM GST on April 25 and close at 11:59PM GST on the April 28, on which students will be able to vote for the next Executive Board. The results will be announced on April 29.
As part of the new business section of the GA, senior Morgante Pell stated that he would like to resurrect the Research and Development Committee, as its members will be graduating this year.
