On April 3, Student Government General Assembly focused on three main topics: the new Core curriculum, a constitutional amendment regarding the new constitution and the approval of a new member of the Elections Commission.
Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Development and chair of the Core Curriculum Committee Bryan Waterman held an open question and answer session, during which he explained the structure of the new Core curriculum. Waterman addressed questions about equivalencies of completed Core classes, and also clarified the updated requirements.
Following the question and answer session on the Core, chair of the Constitution Revision task force Casey Tirshfield proposed the addition of a sunset clause to the constitution. Tirshfield explained that the task force planned to take one more year to produce all the documents related to the restructuring of the Student Government, including a complete constitution and bylaws.
As per the sunset clause, the current constitution will expire at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. After that, the new constitution will come into effect. Voting on this amendment will take place at the next GA.
The third item on the agenda was a vote to approve a new member of the Elections Commission, Bence Almási, who was voted in with 12 votes for and five votes against.
Finally, the floor was opened up for any new business, during which senior Morgante Pell brought up the issue of filtered internet at NYU Abu Dhabi, referring to the fact that the WiFi on campus does not give access to many websites.
Toward the end of the GA, Global Vice President Samia Ahmed announced that the date of the end-of-year event is April 21.
