On Nov. 22, the Faculty Council overwhelmingly endorsed the proposed Core curriculum update with 85 percent in favor, 10 percent in opposition and 5 percent abstaining.
The Faculty Council is a deliberative body that is open to all faculty at NYU Abu Dhabi.
In addition, the student body held an open vote on Nov. 22, which approved the Core curriculum proposal with 87 votes for, 9 votes against and 5 abstentions.
The opportunity for students to have an advisory vote on the Core curriculum was first promoted by sophomore Tom Klein on the Facebook group NYUAD Forum on Nov. 15. The post garnered 86 likes.
Klein then posted a letter addressed to NYU Abu Dhabi Provost Fabio Piano and the Faculty Council which called for students to be able to vote. The letter was co-signed by over 40 students, however it was not sent due to Student Government organizing for students to have a vote.
On Nov. 16, NYUAD Student Government
posted that students would be able to vote on the proposal. Student Government clarified on Nov. 17 that the vote would take place via NYU Vote from between 4 and 8 p.m. on Nov. 22, the same day that the faculty advisory vote would occur.
Before this period of time the Core proposal had been updated to only include two colloquia instead of the three originally proposed.
