No longer will sushi lovers at NYU Abu Dhabi have to struggle with 300 AED delivery minimums or expensive treks off campus. Now they can enjoy the newly open Sushi Counter as part of their Saadiyat Campus experience.
Located on the west side of the complex, the restaurant is easily within reach for Saadiyat dwellers who want all the ambience of a night out without the drudge of transportation.
Sushi Counter is actually a chain in the UAE, and the NYUAD branch is its ninth. The restaurant’s website boasts of an "innovative
approach to fast food" that combines good quality fish with speedy service.
Visitors to NYUAD’s Sushi Counter can expect very hospitable staff and a diverse menu, with dishes ranging from tartars and hand rolls to chirashi, a big bowl of rice mixed with fish and vegetables.
Of course, the list of different kinds of sushi is abundant. The atmosphere is authentic and pleasant, though the restaurant is not spacious and only has a few clusters of tables.
The gap between tables is practically nonexistent, so intimacy for a small group is not one of the restaurant’s advantages.
Dinner for one person, with drinks and a salad, costs around 65 AED, which is similar to Japanese restaurants in the city center.
Sushi Counter does not accept Campus Dirhams. Despite this inconvenience, however, the student body may find the restaurant attractive because of its location — no taxi costs. Vegans and vegetarians will also be pleased by the diversity of dishes on offer.
