After a 48-hour voting period beginning from 7 Feb. and ending today at 1 p.m., sophomore Patrick Sheldon Wee has been elected to Student Government as its new Officer of Student Activities.
Sheldon Wee received 48% of the votes in a special by-election, conducted after the sudden
resignation of the previous Officer, senior Keeryung Kim. The election was overseen by a new Elections Commission that was voted into effect on the afternoon of Kim’s resignation, and consisted of three members: senior Nour AlGharibeh, senior Amel Yagoub and junior Angelica Laura Cvetkovic.
Sheldon Wee will serve in his new role for the remainder of the semester.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunity that the student body has given me to be able to serve. It’s very inspiring,” said Sheldon Wee. “I’ll try my best to fulfill my duties as well as I can.”
Sheldon Wee ran under a platform of promoting better communication between SIGs and the Officer, along with a consolidation of resources and know-how regarding SIG formation.
“As you can see from my platform, I mentioned I wanted to do concrete things for the student body,” said Sheldon Wee, citing an online help center for SIG leaders as a possible new measure.
Voting was conducted through the NYU Voting app, and turnout was 25.5% of the student body.
