AD Foodie - Go! Greek

Looking for a new Deliveroo order? Go! Greek might be a perfect, Mediterranean spot, delicious enough to satisfy your cravings.

Nov 18, 2025

It is that time of the semester. Finals week is quietly looming over your ungroomed head, classes are more intense than ever, and, as a cherry on top of this nightmare cake, you are catching the campus flu. You find yourself with that agitating, painful sore throat, your sinuses feel as if a nail is stuck in them, and the idea of going to your 9:55 seems inferior to losing a little score from your participation grade.
This was me on Friday. I have been sick with the campus flu for the past week, and in the classic university style, it has been the week when the end-of-semester work is taking off. The fun, Friday dinner-plans, ones which this column was supposed to discuss, fell down the drain, and my phone screen quickly turned blue as I logged into my Deliveroo account. I needed some good, hearty food, which is not too expensive, but also does not feel like a mere, fast-food-style dinner. At that moment, just like in a movie, something beautiful popped up on my screen. Something, which is not new to me, but seems to have gotten lost in the back of my hungry mind - Go! Greek.
So, was this AED70.65 dinner, including delivery, worth it? Absolutely, and here is why.
Funnily enough, a close Macedonian friend of mine introduced Go! Greek to me. As Balkans, Greek food is very familiar to us, considering how close the cultures are. A staple in our culture is the perfect street Gyro - one which speaks to your soul after a nice night-out. So, when my friend showed me an amazing deal for two Gyros and a Spanakopita, for a whopping AED55, we knew our dinner-plans had been decided. While this was a special Deliveroo deal, the food we ordered was so delicious that I had to go over the menu once again.
Inspired by that experience, I decided a hot, juicy Gyro, and a crunchy, spinach-filled Spanakopita would be the perfect, flu-appropriate treat. After a quick 30 minute wait, during which I was waiting for the TylolHot (shoutout to my Balkan people) to kick in, the dinner arrived.
The Gyro is exactly what you expect - a flame-grilled, gyro-chicken filled Greek pita bread, with staple tzatziki sauce, sliced red onion, mixed herbs, cabbage, herb mayo, and sliced tomatoes (which I, as an unfortunate picky-eater remove). The Gyro is the perfect size - not too small to leave you hungry for more, but not too big to make you regret finishing that last, juicy bite. Since I was sick, and Gyro is not necessarily considered the healthiest-dinner option, I knew I had to balance it out with the Spanakopita. This amazing, crunchy dish is a Filo pastry, or a classic kind of thin, crunchy-crust pie common to the Balkan region, and is filled with Feta cheese and spinach. I am very particular about my pitas - I do not like them too filled, as they can become too mushy, and I do not like them too empty-then you are only eating the pastry. However, this Spanakopita is so good that it moves me back in time when my grandma used to make us our own version of the pita. It is perfectly crunchy, the spinach and the feta cheese are not overbearing, and the side of lemon adds a sour kick to every bite. It is so good that, in fact, my Latina friend the one who joined us along for the Boyfriend-meeting dinner, begs me to order it with her, at least once a week.
As I was finishing up the chicken pieces left in the Gyro, and licking my fingers after the amazing Spanakopita, I already felt my flu losing its fight. Sometimes, food can be the one thing you are missing when you feel like you need a boost in a battle - whether it is with a cold, an assignment, or even homesickness. You best believe I will be ordering more of Go! Greek in the coming weeks, as I patiently wait and prepare to have my own, grandma-made pita, and the Gyro from that one Gyro spot after a good night out.
