NYUAD Arts Gallery Turns 10

NYU Abu Dhabi’s Art Gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary with a new exhibition, “Between the Tides: A Gulf Quinquennial,” opening this Tuesday, Oct. 6, with an immersive art event.

NYU Abu Dhabi’s Art Gallery will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Tuesday, Oct. 6. For the occasion, the Art Gallery will open a new exhibition titled “Between the Tides: A Gulf Quinquennial.”
The opening night of the celebratory exhibition will feature a community event – “Photos A La Chair” – which will be held in the Blue Hall of NYUAD’s Arts Center. The [immersive event was created by artist Camille Zakharia and architect Ali Ismail Karimi](Photos A La Chair is the Immersive intervention activating art engagement (hungermag.com)) in 2017 in Bahrain and has since accrued great popularity in artistic circles across The Gulf. They are bringing it to NYUAD in its original format of a moving art exhibition. where audience members will be offered a public platform with an artistic setting and invited to take portraits against backdrops created by local artists. The event will welcome visitors from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The exhibition “Between the Tides” is curated to highlight the artistic landscape of the Gulf region and will feature 21 artists and collectives from the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and other countries. Its name alludes to the lunar cycle and its central role in the cultures of the Gulf countries. The artworks featured in the exhibition bring out aspects of the traditions, identities, heritage, and changing environment of the region, which are presented in each artist’s unique art style and experience. The exhibition will run until Dec. 8.
