Heartbreak Poem: Bitter Void

A poem that explores the feelings of grief through a wide range of metaphors.

I've sat in this dark room before
Staring at all the faces on the wall
Squinting my eyes
But the faces are becoming harder to see
The gas they use
Like I'm the pest
Engulf the room and me with it
Leaving my body behind
Empty
For the taking
I've sat in this dark room before
But never like this
Never with my eyes wide
And my mind awake
As if for the first time
I can finally see
And those faces on the wall become clear
But I don’t have the words to liberate them
Because when I go to speak
My tongue is gone
As if the price to pay for my sight
was my voice
