Pakistani Wedding goes off without a hitch
Amid dazzling, colorful spotlights and an array of vibrant dances, Usman Ali, Class of 2022 and Paula Navalon, Class of 2022 were married in the Pakistani Mock Wedding on Apr. 19.
Popular Pakistani music played as dancers jumped and twirled through for nearly half of the two hour long event. The merry dancers introduced the bride and groom, Usman and Paula, as they made their debut amid much fanfare from members of the crowd.
Navalon wore a veil of sheer red material, interwoven with golden threads and a floor length red traditional Pakistani gown which clinked and whispered with ornamental sequins with every step. With her arms intricately decorated with swirls of henna in traditional patterns, she was the image of a blushing bride. Usman was dashing in a sage and gold shalwar kameez. Smiling jubilantly as he reached for his bride, the crowd swelled with heart fluttering sighs and cheers. The mock wedding also featured traditional Pakistani food such as lamb biryani and chai. Many members of the crowd also celebrated the occasion by wearing traditional Pakistani dress to join in the festive spirit.
Masquerade Gala of Spring’19
The annual End of Year Gala was held by the Programming Board on Apr. 18. The theme this year was A Midsummer’s Night Dream masquerade echoing the comedy play by Shakespeare. Partygoers were also asked to don masks as befitted the masquerade ball. Taking place at the St. Regis at the Corniche, the gala began at 7 p.m. and opened to a welcome dinner. The gala quickly transformed into a dance party as participants took to the dance floor to dance the night away to a plethora of songs. On the event as a whole, organizer and programming board member Yusril Nur Hidayat, Class of 2022 said, “I loved organising the gala this year. As long as people are happy, then I am happy too.”
