Lecture by Professor Dominika Laster
Mark your calendar for an exciting lecture on Embodied Memory given by Dominika Laster, Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of New Mexico. Titled, “Let me take you to the land of your ancestors,” the presentation will explore work done by one of the most influential theater practitioners of the 20th century, Polish director Jerzy Grotowski. Best known for his development and ideas regarding “poor theater,” Grotowski goes beyond conventional theater to explore human potential within the context of theatrical performances. Professor Laster will explore aspects of Grotowski’s work such as his compositions structured around African and Afro Caribbean traditional music. The lecture will take place on April 16 in C3-006.
Pakistani Mock Wedding
Be sure to clear your schedule and cancel all appointments from 6 p.m. onward on April 19 for the annual Pakistani Mock Wedding. The Mock Wedding will take place in the West forum. In this year’s iteration, featuring freshmen Usman Ali from Pakistan as the groom and Paula Naval from Spain as the bride, the event is sure to be an exciting one depicting traditions present at a typical Pakistani wedding. It will undoubtedly be an evening full of dances, music as well as traditional Pakistani food and clothing, highlighting many center pieces of traditional Pakistani culture. As an exciting event where all members of NYU Abu Dhabi are welcome, whether you hail from Pakistan or not, this will be an event where all can get together to experience the joy of the mock union between Usman and Paula. On becoming the groom for the mock wedding, Usman Ali, Class of 2022 said, “I’m excited to represent Pakistani culture at our university with the mock wedding which will include some of our traditional ceremonies and Desi food.” On being the bride for the mock wedding, Paula Navalon, Class of 2022 said, “To be the bride in this year’s mock wedding is an amazing opportunity to learn more about the culture of Pakistan. I have the chance to learn about their music, dances, traditional clothing, and above all, I get to know more Pakistani students.”
