Celebrate Love and Culture at the Pakistani Mock Wedding
If there is one event you shouldn’t miss this week, it is the Pakistani mock wedding, which will take place on April 6 at 7 p.m. in the West Forum. Organized by the Pakistani Student Association, the highly anticipated event is almost an exact reenactment of a traditional Pakistani wedding with lots of dancing, desi food, rituals and colorful traditional clothing. This year’s bride and groom are Claudia Neumann and Wahib Kamran, both from the Class of 2021. If you are looking for a way to celebrate South Asian culture with all kinds of students and staff members, definitely mark your calendars for April 6.
Sweetest Holiday of the Month: White Day
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for White Day, which is definitely not what you are thinking of. White Day, which is similar to Valentine’s Day, is a Korean holiday for exchanging sweets and gifts between friends and lovers. Although the actual date of the holiday is March 14, Dongari, the Korean Student Interest Group, is celebrating it on March 31. Members of the SIG will deliver free candy to those who have requested to send some to their friends and significant others. “Show your friends that you care through this capitalist scheme started by candy industries in the 1980s in order to increase their candy sales,” Dongari members wrote on Facebook.
Reach out to REACH!
Have any questions or feedback in mind for REACH? Or are you simply looking for a chance to socialize with people on a Sunday evening? Then make sure to open up your schedule on April 1, specifically from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. REACH is hosting a Reach out to REACH event at the Baraha, during which students will have a chance to talk to current members and bring up any questions or concerns they may have. After filling out a feedback form, students are more than welcome to grab a cupcake.
First Youth Circle at NYUAD
If you are passionate about policy making or coming up with solutions to existing problems, then the first Youth Circle to be held at NYUAD may be of interest to you. Launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and governed by the Emirates Youth Council, the Youth Circle initiative has given students across the UAE a chance to voice their opinions. The structure of the Youth Circle is in its name; students of different genders, fields of interest and age groups sit in a circle and engage in dialogue. Everyone will get a chance to voice their opinions on topics they are passionate about and influence future policies and solutions. The event will take place on April 2 at 5:30 p.m.
