Appreciation Day
If you don’t want to miss Appreciation Day this year, mark your calendars for March 28 and March 29. Appreciation Day is a two-day event dedicated to showing gratitude and love to the contract staff on campus who make NYU Abu Dhabi feel like home. The celebrations will take place in the Central Plaza from 3 to 6 p.m. with food, music and photo booths provided.
Different Student Interest Groups are coming together in preparation for this event, two of which are Cake Up and ADvocacy. On March 27, the two will be hosting a baking session where students will have the chance to bake cookies and mini cupcakes. The session is to take place in A5B’s second floor lounge from 1 to 6 p.m., and all students are encouraged to come and participate, even if it is just for 10 minutes of decorating cupcakes.
Wendy Chen & Poetry
From March 25 to 27, new and up-and-coming poet Wendy Chen will visit NYUAD to offer a workshop, a master class and a poetry reading. The recipient of the Academy of American Poets Most Promising Young Poet Prize, Chen is a young poet who received her MFA from Syracuse University and recently published a book called Unearthings. She will be offering 20 minute one-on-one workshop sessions for individuals who want to discuss their work with her on March 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. and March 27 from 10:30 a.m to 12 p.m. The master class about translation as well as narrative and form poetry will take place on March 27 from 4 to 5:15 p.m., and no prior experience is required for students to join the class. The poetry reading, which will include Chen reading selections from Unearthings, will be held in A3-002 on March 27 at 7 p.m.
Politics in South Asia
Whether you are majoring in Political Science or are simply interested in knowing more about South Asian politics, you shouldn’t miss out on Religious Majoritarianism in South Asia, a faculty and student panel hosted by TASHAN. The event will be held on March 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature faculty members who are experts on current South Asian politics. The panel will focus on understanding ways in which politics work in a democratic system that deals with religious majorities and minorities.
