J-Term Application
At the beginning of September, the NYU Abu Dhabi Office of Global Education announced the opening of applications for the upcoming January Term. However, since then, students have been experiencing technical issues, while trying to submit their application. The original deadline for the application was Sept. 17; however, due to a series of technical glitches, the deadline has been extended to Sept. 23. The Office of Global Education has been posting frequent updates on the status of the application form on the Student Portal.
On Sept. 15, the Office of Global Education posted the following note on the Student Portal: “The J-Term form is back up and, we believe, glitch free.”
Students who had submitted their preferences before the application was shut down have to do so again, as all previous entries were removed.
Class of 2021 Representative
The election for Class of 2021 Representative opened Thursday afternoon. All of the 11 candidates running for the position are male. The platforms for all the candidates can be found here. In their platforms, most candidates expressed their desires to give freshmen a voice on campus, focus on demographic and gender issues and address concerns regarding attendance and laundry.
Benjamin Roberts, Class of 2021, announced his running platform on Facebook.
“Hey guys, I’m running for Freshman Class Representative… If elected, I will embody the Class of 2021’s zeitgeist in Student Government and will spare no expense ensuring our interests are of the utmost importance in all debates and decisions.” his platform read.
The other 10 candidates expressed similar concerns, advocating for policies to achieve equality between all four classes.
“The inspiration behind my candidacy is simple: communication. Initiating the NYUAD Town Hall streamlines the link between student and admin, getting issues across in a manner that stimulates change. Together, changes are near,” said one of the candidates, Brian Shin, Class of 2021.
Candidate Nurpeiis Baimukan, Class of 2021, shared his slogan: “Let’s live to the fullest in the style of jazz!”
Voting closed on Sept. 16 at 11:59 p.m.
Opportunities Fair
On Sept. 14, the Career Development Center hosted more than 75 companies from Abu Dhabi and the UAE on campus. Full time jobs, internships and volunteer opportunities were available in a range of different industries. Companies represented at the fair included P&G Careers, AMiDEAST UAE and Algorythma.
The companies expressed interest in NYUAD students, with some seeking to hire students as soon as possible.
“There were many great options! It was different than last year, I saw a lot of new companies. Many looking for engineers or computer science people, but there were also great internship opportunities for Econ majors,” said Hung Nguyen, Class of 2020.
